Water Aid Australia – Gifts for Life

WaterAid works to transform lives by ensuring communities worldwide have access to clean water, proper sanitation, and good hygiene. With millions of people still living without these basic necessities, WaterAid helps unlock potential and create lasting change where it’s needed most.

The Problem

As part of their fundraising efforts, WaterAid Australia have dedicated online store for selling “Gifts for Life” – gift cards that help fund access to clean water and sanitation for the world’s most vulnerable communities. WaterAidGifts.org.au is hosted on Shopify and allows customers to purchase these meaningful gifts for loved ones while making a direct impact. It also provides a direct link to WaterAid’s donation platform.

However, the user experience on the site was clunky and unintuitive, making the process of purchasing gifts difficult for customers. The website itself also appeared outdated and lacked the engaging, fresh design that WaterAid desired to better connect with supporters, highlighting the life-changing impact of their purchases. The website administrators required a familiar platform to ensure a smooth transition to an improved system.

The Approach

We suggested to our client that we could update their Shopify site by leveraging our design expertise and utilising one of the new Shopify themes available. Our approach involved working with the existing content and reskinning the website to create a fresh, modern look that better aligned with the organization’s visual branding aspirations. By selecting a theme from Shopify’s theme library, we were able to apply and customize it within the Shopify admin area, ensuring the site’s aesthetics were more in line with WaterAidGifts’ mission while enhancing the overall user experience.

The customizations were carried out seamlessly, and the changes were published without any downtime, ensuring there was no disruption to the website’s functionality or online sales. This process allowed us to give the site a much-needed update while maintaining the existing content structure, making the transition smooth for both the website admins and customers.

Our Solution

By continuing to use Shopify, we ensured the Water Aid team didn’t need to relearn how to manage the backend, keeping operations running smoothly without disruption. The familiar platform allowed for a seamless transition to a fresh, updated design.

We successfully delivered an engaging, visually appealing website that serves as a powerful sales tool for WaterAid’s fundraising efforts. The improved user experience has made it easier for supporters to navigate and make purchases, leading to an increase in online sales.

Whether you’re buying a toilet, a water tap or a handwashing station, you’ll have a better user experience and will be more likely to complete your purchase.  This means that Water Aid will be able to complete more life changing water and sanitation projects for people that need them most.
